Hyderabad is preparing for an intense cold wave over the next three days, with meteorological forecasts predicting significantly lower temperatures across the city and surrounding regions from December 19 to 21, 2024.

The city has been experiencing continuous cold wave conditions, but weather experts warn that the upcoming mornings will be even colder than current conditions. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions as the mercury is expected to plummet further.

Areas under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are likely to witness temperatures dropping below 7°C, while the main city areas could record temperatures around 10°C. These readings would mark some of the coldest conditions experienced in the region this winter season.

The situation appears more severe in other parts of the state. West and North Telangana districts are expected to experience even harsher conditions, with temperatures potentially falling to 5°C or below. These regions typically record lower temperatures compared to the urban heat island effect of Hyderabad.

Local authorities have issued advisories urging citizens to stay warm and minimize outdoor exposure during early morning and late night hours. Vulnerable populations including children, elderly persons, and those with respiratory conditions are particularly advised to take extra care.

Health experts recommend wearing multiple layers of warm clothing, consuming hot beverages, and avoiding unnecessary travel during midnight hours when temperatures reach their lowest point. The cold wave conditions can pose health risks, particularly for those exposed to the elements for extended periods.

The agricultural sector is also monitoring the situation closely, as prolonged cold wave conditions can impact winter crops and horticulture. Farmers in affected districts have been advised to take protective measures for their crops and livestock.

Weather monitoring agencies continue to track the cold wave progression across Telangana. The current cold spell is attributed to northerly winds bringing cold air from northern India, combined with clear skies that allow rapid heat loss during nighttime hours.

Residents are encouraged to check weather updates regularly and plan their activities accordingly during this three-day severe cold wave period. Local administration remains on alert to address any emergency situations arising from the extreme weather conditions.
