Hyderabad Cold Wave Intensifies: Temperature Drops to 9.3°C at University Campus

Hyderabad is experiencing a severe cold wave with no signs of relief, as temperatures across the city plummeted to single digits early on Monday, December 23. Multiple areas recorded their coldest morning of the season, with some localities registering temperatures as low as 9.3°C.

The University of Hyderabad recorded the lowest temperature in the city at 9.3°C, making it the coldest spot in the metropolitan area. Other areas in the city’s outskirts and northern regions also witnessed significant drops in mercury levels during the early morning hours.

Rajendranagar recorded 10.1°C, while Moulaali registered 10.6°C. The IT hub of Gachibowli saw temperatures touch 11.0°C, and Sivarampalle recorded 11.3°C.

Several residential areas across the city also experienced the cold snap. Gayatri Nagar recorded 11.5°C, Telecom Colony Alwal at 11.6°C, and Quthbullapur at 11.8°C. The northern parts of the city including Shapur Nagar, Macha Bollaram, and Gajularamaram all registered 11.9°C.

Central and western parts of Hyderabad were not spared either. Ambedkar Nagar and West Maredpally both recorded 12.0°C, while Kishanbagh and Shaikpet saw temperatures at 12.2°C. Industrial areas like Jeedimetla registered 12.4°C.

Other notable temperature readings include Suleman Nagar at 12.5°C, Rajiv Nagar Community Hall at 12.6°C, and Vivekanandapuram Community Hall in Neredmet at 12.7°C. Patancheru recorded 12.9°C.

The official weather station at Begumpet (IMD Office) and BHEL Factory both recorded 13.0°C. Several other locations including Sardarmahal, Rock Town Colony Nagole, LB Stadium Gunfoundry, Vittalvadi, Karwan, and Tirumalagiri all registered 13.1°C. The historic Golkonda area recorded 13.3°C.

Health authorities have issued an advisory warning residents about the continuation of seasonal flu during the cold wave. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions and stay warm during the extended cold weather conditions affecting the city.
