The Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, C.V. Anand, has announced new rules to reduce noise pollution and safety risks during religious processions. This includes a ban on DJ sound systems, sound mixers, and firecrackers. The decision comes after many people complained about the loud noise and its negative effects on health.

The Commissioner explained that the sound from DJ systems has become much louder at recent festivals, causing problems for residents. Many elderly people and students have been affected, with complaints that the loud noise interrupts daily life and studies.

Anand warned that listening to loud music for a long time can cause serious health problems. These include hearing loss, high blood pressure, and mental stress. He also raised concerns about safety, as loud music can lead to chaotic or unruly behavior, especially among young people.

The Commissioner mentioned a dangerous incident that happened on September 19, 2024, during a religious procession. A generator being used for DJ music caught fire, possibly due to sparks from firecrackers. Fortunately, the fire was quickly controlled, but it showed the need for stricter rules.

To maintain peace and safety, Anand held a meeting with religious leaders, political representatives, and government officials. Everyone agreed that there should be strong rules to control noise and protect public safety during religious events.

Starting immediately, DJ sound systems and firecrackers are no longer allowed at religious processions in Hyderabad. However, sound systems can still be used if they follow specific noise limits based on different zones—industrial, commercial, residential, and silence zones. These limits are set by a government order, G.O.Ms. No. 172.

The rules also define daytime as 6 AM to 10 PM and nighttime from 10 PM to 6 AM. If anyone breaks these rules, they could face penalties, including fines and even jail time, under the Hyderabad City Police Act and the Environment Protection Act.

These new measures show the government’s commitment to protecting public health while respecting religious traditions. Police officials will inform procession organizers and sound equipment suppliers about the new rules to make sure they are followed.

Officials hope these steps will create a safer and more respectful environment for everyone during religious celebrations.
