    Hyderabad: Traffic Problems Linked to Encroachments, Says Police Commissioner

    Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand has emphasized the need to clear footpaths and roads of encroachments to ease traffic congestion in the city. He pointed out that pushcarts, petty vendors, and establishments operating on footpaths and carriageways are a major cause of traffic slowdowns in Hyderabad.

    The city’s traffic police held a meeting to address these issues under the initiative called the Removal of Obstructive Parking and Encroachments (ROPE). During the meeting on Wednesday, Commissioner Anand sought the cooperation of MLAs and other public representatives to tackle encroachments. He stressed that freeing up footpaths and carriageways is crucial to improving road conditions for commuters.

    Commissioner Anand highlighted that Hyderabad’s roads are congested with approximately 88 lakh vehicles, and an additional 1,500 vehicles are being registered daily. He stated that the traffic police are implementing several measures to promote commuter discipline and enhance road safety as part of systematic traffic management efforts.

    The meeting was attended by several public representatives, including MLAs Akbaruddin Owaisi (Chandrayangutta), Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala (Malakpet), Mohd Majid Hussain (Nampally), Kausar Mohiuddin (Karwan), Mir Zulfeqar Ali (Charminar), Jaffar Hussain Meraj (Yakutpura), and Mohammed Mubeen (Bahadurpura). Officials from the GHMC and senior traffic police officers, such as Additional CP Traffic P. Vishwa Prasad, DCP Traffic-III R. Venkateswarlu, DCPs Sneha Mehra and Patil Kantilal Subhash, and others from the South, South East, and South West zones, were also present.
