Hyderabad: The city’s police chief, V C Sajjanar, has called on residents to stay alert due to the rising danger of deepfakes and AI-driven scams. He shared a message on X, previously known as Twitter, advising people to create a “safe word” with family to confirm identities during suspicious calls or online chats.

Sajjanar emphasized, “In today’s world of AI and deepfakes, having a ‘safe word’ is crucial for protection.” He highlighted the need for caution against scams involving digital impersonation. The police have repeatedly alerted the public about scammers using AI to replicate voices and faces of familiar people to deceive victims.

Cybercrime experts have also urged individuals not to trust audio or video calls without verification. They recommend confirming identities through a pre-arranged code word or direct contact before sharing any sensitive information or funds.
