The Cyber Crime Police has alerted the public about a significant increase in scams, especially those involving online investments and trading. The Hyderabad City Police used X to inform people about these scams, which are circulating on platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).
Scammers pose as financial agents or company representatives, enticing individuals with promises of high returns via fake trading apps and websites. These apps display fake profits to gain victims’ trust.
After someone invests, the fraudsters demand more money, claiming it’s for taxes or withdrawal fees. Once they get the money, they either disappear or threaten the victim with fake legal consequences.
In one incident, a person lost ₹6.32 lakh in the NFM Capital Markets scam. Another scam involving a fake app called Costa Well Grown resulted in victims losing ₹43 lakh. These platforms were neither registered nor verified.
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police advises the public to avoid clicking on unknown investment links or accepting offers from strangers. They warn against downloading or using unverified trading apps and stress the importance of not sharing personal or banking details with unknown individuals. Always verify if a trading platform is registered with SEBI by checking www.sebi.gov.in.
If you suspect you’ve been scammed, call the Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or file a complaint online at www.cybercrime.gov.in. The Hyderabad Police is actively investigating these scams and urges citizens to raise awareness and report any suspicious activity.
