The Hyderabad Water Board has started a new campaign called the “Motor-Free Tap” drive. This drive began on Tuesday and aims to catch people who are illegally attaching motors to water taps to draw more water.

Ashok Reddy, the Managing Director of the Water Board, led inspections with his team in the Kakatiya Hills area of Madhapur. They were surprised to see how much water was being wasted due to these illegal activities.

During the checks, they found one person using both an illegal water connection and a motor, which caused too much water to be used. This led to water overflowing from apartment sumps and spilling out. A case was filed against the person for being careless.

In two other places, motors were found connected to drains and used for construction work. The Water Board officials also spoke with residents in several apartment buildings to explain why saving water is so important.

On the first day of the drive, officials seized 64 motors from different parts of the city. They also fined 84 people for using motors and wasting water. The SR Nagar area had the most cases, with 25 motors taken away.

The Water Board is asking residents to help by reporting any illegal motor use or water supply problems. People can call the customer care number 155313 to share any complaints.
