Hyderabad took action to prevent flooding issues during the monsoon by starting a demolition drive on Friday in Krishna Nagar, Saidabad. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) led the operation.
Senior officials from HYDRAA oversaw the process, with support from the Hyderabad Police to ensure peace and manage any local resistance. The demolition went smoothly, although some property owners were worried about compensation and relocation.
Teams from HYDRAA targeted illegal buildings on stormwater drains. These structures blocked rainwater flow, causing issues in Krishna Nagar. HYDRAA identified these encroachments as major contributors to waterlogging and flash floods during heavy rains.
Authorities had previously warned property owners to remove illegal constructions, but many did not comply. Due to this, enforcement became necessary. HYDRAA confirmed that similar operations will continue in other flood-prone areas in Hyderabad as part of their disaster management plan.
