Wanaparthy, Telangana — A surprise inspection of the Government General Hospital in Wanaparthy on Saturday revealed serious staffing shortages, raising concerns about the hospital’s ability to serve patients effectively. The visit was led by BC Political JAC State Chairman Rachala Yugandhar Goud, who called out the mismatch between the hospital’s upgraded infrastructure and its limited workforce.
Despite being recently elevated to a teaching hospital with an attached medical college, the facility struggles to operate efficiently due to a lack of qualified medical professionals.
Goud walked through the hospital and held discussions with Resident Medical Officer Dr. Javed. He pointed out that while the existing doctors are dedicated, they are overwhelmed. “The current staff is doing their best, but the workload is too much,” he said.
The numbers speak for themselves. Out of 39 sanctioned professor roles, only 14 are filled. The shortage is worse for associate professors, with 26 positions empty, and 65 assistant professor jobs also remain vacant. The hospital also lacks 8 tutors and several Senior Residents.
Goud stressed that improving buildings and equipment means little if there aren’t enough doctors to treat patients. He called for urgent action from the state government and the district in-charge minister to fix the problem immediately.
However, he did highlight a few positives. The Wanaparthy Maternal and Child Care Centre is performing well, ranking third in Telangana for childbirths. It handles around 500 deliveries every month, following only Sangareddy and Mahbubnagar.
Sanitation at the hospital was described as decent, though Goud believes there is room for improvement. He also praised local MLA Thudi Megha Reddy for her leadership and urged faster progress on hospital expansion work.
Reaffirming the BC Political JAC’s commitment to free healthcare and education, Goud reminded the public of their previous padayatra (foot march) to demand better services.
Other BC Political JAC leaders joined the visit, including Vanaparthi Town President Devara Shiva and Kothakota Mandal President Anjan Yadav. The team pledged to continue pushing for better healthcare access across the region.
