Hyderabad: The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Chennai held its Crystal Connexions Alumni Meet on August 15, where they honored former students with alumni excellence awards.
Famous actor and Member of Parliament, Dr. Kamal Haasan, was the chief guest. VIT Founder-Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan led the event, and VIT Vice-President Dr. G.V. Selvam welcomed everyone. During his speech, Dr. Kamal Haasan encouraged young people to embrace failures as stepping stones to success. He emphasized the importance of the freedom to fail, stating that being afraid of failure limits a country’s potential.
He highlighted that failure is an essential part of learning. In his words, true freedom involves the ability to fall and rise without fear. Dr. Kamal Haasan also pointed out that in the startup world, many ideas do not succeed, but in places like Silicon Valley, these are seen as learning experiences, unlike in India, where failure often carries shame.
Dr. G. Viswanathan, in his address, stressed that higher education is key to making India a developed country. He believes education and job opportunities are crucial for progress.
Dr. G.V. Selvam encouraged students to become entrepreneurs and create jobs rather than just seeking them. He advised those working abroad to learn and earn there but return to contribute to India. He urged them to be job creators and support others by providing employment opportunities.
