Text Size: 100%

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has spoken out against the decision to remove chapters on Mughal history from textbooks by the NCERT, accusing the right-wing RSS and BJP of being afraid of history. The Sangh Parivar, which includes the RSS and its affiliated organisations, are known for their attempts at rewriting history to mask the truth. Vijayan urged people to protest against the removal of Mughal history from textbooks and let the truth prevail.

The controversy started on April 2 when CBSE and Uttar Pradesh Board decided to remove Mughal chapters from their respective Class XI and XII history textbooks. However, the NCERT has stated that there are still chapters about the Mughals in its textbooks. The move has been criticized by opposition leaders, with former Union minister Kapil Sibal jokingly suggesting that contemporary Indian history should start in 2014 as a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
