Prince Harry and Prince Andrew attended King Charles III’s coronation, but they were seated in the third row and did not join the family on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Harry and his wife, Meghan, have been critical of the monarchy since quitting royal duties in 2020, while Andrew has been frozen out due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein and a related abuse allegation.
Both princes were part of the royal ranks for the coronation at Westminster Abbey but had no formal role. Andrew was driven to the abbey from Buckingham Palace, and some people in the crowd booed him. Harry wore a morning suit with his medals, while Andrew wore his robes as a knight of the garter.
They were both seen smiling as they walked through the abbey to their seats. Harry chatted with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. Andrew sat next to his daughter Beatrice, and Harry sat next to Jack Brooksbank, the husband of his cousin Eugenie.
They did not participate in the horse-drawn procession through central London or appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony after the ceremony. Andrew’s links with Epstein have caused controversy, and a US woman accused him of pressuring her to have sex when she was 17. The case was settled out of court in February 2022.
While Harry and Andrew attended the coronation, their seating arrangement was out of keeping with their places in the line of succession to the throne. Harry is fifth in line, and Andrew is eighth in line.
