Hyderabad: On Tuesday, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Roads and Buildings Minister, met with Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, in New Delhi. They discussed the Centre’s support for the double-decker corridor being built from LB Nagar to Hayat Nagar on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway.
The meeting aimed to speed up approvals and discuss new proposals for several National Highway projects in Telangana. Minister Venkat Reddy, along with Telangana MPs and AP Jithender Reddy, the State Special Representative to Delhi, urged Gadkari for quick decisions on important projects.
A major topic was expanding the Hyderabad–Vijayawada NH-65 from four lanes to six lanes and adding service roads. The Minister expressed concern about the road’s safety after a tragic accident involving two police officers. Gadkari, moved by this, promised to address NH-65’s expansion in the Finance Committee meeting on August 15.
For the Regional Ring Road (RRR), the Minister stated that land acquisition for the northern part from Sangareddy to Choutuppal is done. He suggested changing the plan to a 6-lane highway to meet future needs. Gadkari welcomed this and asked for updated estimates, assuring swift tender processes and early work commencement. The Minister also pushed for work on the southern stretch, highlighting its potential as an industrial corridor.
Regarding the LB Nagar–Malkapur section, the Minister proposed an elevated corridor from Chintalkunta checkpost to the All India Radio Station and a double-decker flyover, inspired by successful examples in Nagpur. Gadkari agreed in principle and requested proposals for quick approval.
For the Hyderabad–Srisailam NH-765, Komatireddy asked for elevated corridor status in the tiger reserve area, which is ecologically sensitive. Gadkari approved the alignment changes, which would shorten the corridor by nearly four kilometers.
On the Hyderabad–Manneguda highway, the Minister sought resolution of issues with the National Green Tribunal and contractor mobilization. He also pushed for approvals under Setu Bandhan and the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed satisfaction, noting that Telangana’s road infrastructure is rapidly improving due to ongoing support from the Centre.
