MLC Kavitha is currently in Tihar Jail due to her involvement in the Delhi liquor scam. Her brother, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), who is the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), believes she may get bail within a week.
Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15. During her time in jail, she has faced health issues. KTR mentioned that she has lost 11 kg and suffers from high blood pressure, needing medication twice daily. He also highlighted the poor conditions in Tihar Jail, which houses 30,000 inmates in a space meant for 11,000. Despite these hardships, KTR emphasized that such trials can build future leaders.
Kavitha has been trying to get bail but has encountered setbacks. Errors in the charge sheet caused the withdrawal of her recent bail petition. KTR and Telangana Finance Minister Harish Rao have been in Delhi consulting with legal experts over the past five days to speed up the bail process.
The Supreme Court recently granted bail to Manish Sisodia, Delhi’s former Deputy Chief Minister, after seventeen months in jail. This has given hope to others accused in the same case, including Kavitha. Although Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has received bail in the ED case, he is still waiting for relief in the CBI case.
So far, only those who have turned approvers in the Delhi liquor scam have received bail. However, given Kavitha’s worsening health, there is growing hope that she may be granted bail on medical grounds. KTR is confident that her release is imminent.
The BRS remains hopeful as they continue to address the legal and medical concerns surrounding Kavitha’s detention.
