Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, the BRS working president, claimed on Thursday that the Congress government is planning to misuse public funds through the Musi River beautification project.
Rao accused the Congress of inflating project costs, suggesting a large-scale fraud. He mentioned that the previous BRS administration, led by K Chandrashekar Rao, had already created a comprehensive plan for the project.
During a media briefing, Rao emphasized that the KCR government had successfully brought Godavari river water to Kondapochamma Sagar near Hyderabad through the Kaleshwaram Project. In 2022, they also approved a Rs 1,100 crore budget to channel Godavari water from Kondapochamma Sagar to Gandipet lake.
Rao elaborated that the BRS government installed 36 Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) to handle 2,000 MLD of sewage entering the Musi River. They completed a 5-kilometer beautification in Nagole and built a Shilparamam at Uppal Bhagayat along the river.
He pointed out that the previous government had a Rs 16,000 crore plan for the river project, but the Congress government has now raised it to Rs 1,50,000 crore. Rao vowed that the BRS would expose this misuse of public funds.
He also accused the Congress of fast-tracking the project to gain political advantage, allegedly sending money to Delhi under the guise of urban development. Rao assured that the people of Telangana are aware of these developments.
