Hyderabad: A male leopard was caught by the Telangana Forest Department early Thursday morning at the ICRISAT campus in Patancheru, on the outskirts of the city. The operation was led by Sangareddy District Forest Officer (DFO) Sridhar and his team, who trapped the leopard using a cage.
After being captured, the leopard was taken to the Hyderabad Zoo for a medical check-up. Officials confirmed that the animal is healthy and about five to six years old.
Zoo curator J Vasantha said the leopard is currently being kept in a quarantine area under the care of a veterinary team led by Dr. MA Hakeem. According to the doctors’ initial report, the leopard is in good condition and may be released back into the wild.
The rescue operation was carefully carried out to ensure the safety of both the leopard and people living near the ICRISAT research center in Sangareddy district.
Although this leopard has been captured, authorities believe there may be another one still on the ICRISAT campus. Forest teams are continuing to monitor the area to keep the campus and nearby neighborhoods safe.
