A leopard that had been causing concern in Gandipet and nearby places was successfully captured after 22 days of intense efforts. The animal was caught in a cage placed by the Forest Department at the Trek Park area.
Forest officials had set up eight cameras and four cages to monitor the elusive creature, which was first seen 12 days ago. The leopard was initially spotted at Mulkavanam Nursery, then at the forest trek park in Chilkur, and later near the Greyhounds campus in Manchirevula village.
On Thursday morning, the leopard was trapped near Trek Park. As it stepped into the cage, the door closed automatically. A team from the Forest Department arrived promptly, secured the leopard, and moved it to a forested area safely.
Local residents felt relieved after the leopard’s capture and appreciated the Forest Department’s efforts. The animal’s presence had kept the community around Gandipet on edge, particularly during early mornings and evenings.
Officials mentioned that the leopard would undergo a medical check before being released into a protected forest area.
