The by-election in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency in Telangana is underway, with the nomination process entering its third day. Maganti Sunitha, representing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), was the first to file her nomination. Election Returning Officer Sairam accepted her application. BRS is ahead of its competitors in this race.
Before filing her nomination, Maganti Sunitha performed rituals at the Peddamma Thalli temple in Jubilee Hills. This follows a family tradition started by her late husband, MLA Maganti Gopinath. She was accompanied by former MLA Vishnuvardhan Reddy and other family members.
The by-election became necessary after the death of MLA Maganti Gopinath. The BRS chose his widow, Sunitha, to contest. The Congress party has put forward Naviv Yadav as their candidate, while the BJP recently announced Lankala Deepak Reddy as their choice.
About 20 candidates have submitted their nominations as the window remains open for two more days. The last date to file nominations is October 21, with scrutiny on October 22. Candidates can withdraw until October 24. Voting will take place on November 11, with results announced on November 14.
