The City Cybercrime police in Hyderabad have arrested a 28-year-old man for cheating Indian students studying in US universities by promising a 10% discount on semester fees.

A complaint was filed by a person from Trimulgherry, stating that fraudsters had cheated him of Rs. 4.38 lakh by offering a fee discount for his son studying at the University of West Florida.

The arrested suspect, Kanolla Ashok Kumar, worked with his friends Tarun (a US resident) and Waqar (from Delhi) in consultancy agencies that send students to the US. They used their access to student databases to target and cheat Indian students in various US universities by offering fake fee discounts.

The fraudsters collected the fees from the victims into their own bank accounts and paid the amounts using their credit/debit cards. They would then request chargebacks after a few days, claiming that the fee payments were not actually made, despite showing as paid initially.
