Hyderabad: On Sunday, a customer claimed to have discovered a cockroach in the food at a well-known mandi restaurant in Malakpet, Hyderabad.

A video posted online showed the cockroach in the mandi dish. However, the restaurant reportedly denied any fault for the poor hygiene. The customer did not inform the restaurant’s management about the incident.

This is not an isolated issue in Hyderabad. Similar complaints about insects in meals have been made by others in various dining spots around the city.

Despite ongoing concerns from residents, many mandi restaurants in Hyderabad continue to show little improvement in maintaining cleanliness.

The Food Safety Department of Telangana has conducted several inspections revealing unhygienic conditions. Common issues found include dirty kitchenware, infestations of cockroaches and houseflies, and expired food items being stored.

Even though these inspections led to the seizure of items, issuance of notices, and collection of samples, the unsanitary conditions persist in many dining establishments.
