Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Churachandpur, where some of the worst rioting happened during the recent ethnic conflict in Manipur. He talked to Kuki civil society leaders, church leaders, and intellectuals from the Kuki community to understand their problems and find ways to bring peace to the state. The ethnic conflict between Meiteis and Kukis has caused a series of clashes, leading to a death toll of 80 people. Shah was accompanied by Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka.

As part of his initiative to bring peace to the violence-hit state, Shah had consultations with stakeholders starting with a breakfast meeting with a group of women leaders. He reiterated the importance of the role of women in Manipur’s society and said they are committed to ensuring peace and prosperity in the state.
