Hyderabad Takes a Big Step Towards Combating Climate Change

Hyderabad: The Chitrakoot Global Conference on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has announced a major new plan to tackle climate change. This initiative focuses on energy efficiency as a key solution to reduce global warming, lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and create a sustainable future.

Experts at the conference highlighted the importance of energy efficiency, stating that it could contribute to over 40% of the global efforts needed to address climate change. To achieve this, the conference proposed a three-part strategy to maximise its impact.

First, they recommended creating strong energy efficiency policies that apply across different sectors. These include energy, rural development, transport, agriculture, housing, and urban planning. By targeting these areas, the plan aims to create significant improvements.

Second, the initiative calls for governments to allocate at least 10% of their budgets as “green funding.” This money would be used to support energy-efficient projects and sustainable practices. Additionally, the plan includes strict timelines to ensure implementation happens quickly and effectively.

Finally, the conference emphasised the importance of monitoring progress and involving the public. High-level mechanisms would be set up to track how well the strategies are working. At the same time, public engagement would be encouraged through clear and consistent communication to promote widespread adoption of energy-saving solutions.
