Hyderabad Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who oversees the district, has directed city officials to speed up land acquisition for key development projects across the city.
During a meeting on Saturday at the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) head office, the minister reviewed the progress of ongoing infrastructure and urban development efforts. He emphasized completing all pending works under the Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP) as quickly as possible for public use.
He gave clear deadlines for two major road overbridge (ROB) projects. The Falaknuma ROB must be finished by July, and the Shastripuram ROB by August. These projects aim to ease traffic congestion in busy areas.
Minister Prabhakar also stressed the urgent need to start silt removal to prepare the city for the upcoming rainy season. He warned that any delays could cause flooding and other issues.
Sanitation officials raised concerns about the Jawaharnagar dump yard, which is nearing capacity. They urged the minister to support the creation of a new waste disposal site. In response, letters have already been sent to the District Collectors of Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Sangareddy to begin the process of acquiring land for a new dump yard.
Addressing public complaints, the Additional Commissioner of Sanitation explained that there had been delays in fixing street light issues. However, he assured the minister that from now on, complaints would be resolved daily. The minister also instructed that street lights should not be switched on during daylight hours.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan informed the minister that contractors have completed their tenders. To avoid delays, zonal commissioners have been told to allow subcontractors an additional two months to purchase street lights and related materials.
On the Storm Water Drainage Project (SNDP) front, officials reported that 90% of the first phase is complete. These improvements have reduced flood risk in 150 colonies. The minister urged them to wrap up the remaining work quickly to avoid problems during the monsoon.
Finally, the minister called for the completion of beautification projects throughout the city, including in slum areas, to improve living conditions for all residents.
