Hyderabad: Rani Rudrama, a spokesperson for the BJP, highlighted the central government’s significant investment in Telangana’s agriculture sector. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the NDA government has directed around Rs 2 lakh crore to boost agriculture in the state.
Speaking on Friday, Rudrama criticized the current Congress and previous BRS governments in Telangana for lacking the vision and efficiency shown by the Modi-led national administration in improving agriculture.
From 2014 to 2025, the NDA has allocated substantial funds to Telangana’s agriculture. Specifically, Rs 57,556 crore was spent on cotton purchases. In 2014, the cotton expenditure was Rs 3,404 crore, while for the 2023-24 season, Rs 20,998 crore is set aside.
Throughout this period, the central government invested Rs 57,556 crore in buying cotton, and the Cotton Corporation of India has purchased cotton worth Rs 58,000 crore from Telangana’s farmers. Rudrama noted that when the Congress assumed power, they promised a Rs 500 per quintal bonus for 14 crops. However, they announced bonuses for only three crops and gave them to just half of the farmers, leaving many without compensation. This incomplete distribution, according to her, represents a deceptive act by the Congress party.
