Morning Walkers Demand CCTV Surveillance for Public Gardens in Hyderabad

Morning walkers and visitors at Public Gardens in Hyderabad are growing increasingly concerned about safety due to a rise in illegal activities. To address these issues, a group of morning walkers submitted a formal representation to the State government on Tuesday, urging immediate installation of CCTV cameras in the area.

Public Gardens is located next to the Telangana Legislative Assembly, yet the lack of CCTV surveillance has left many people surprised and disappointed. Several minor and major incidents have been reported in recent times, making the absence of security measures even more troubling.

Walkers have repeatedly raised this issue with concerned authorities, but no action has been taken so far. They expressed frustration over the government’s neglect of Public Gardens, pointing out that other proposals, such as the installation of an open gym and children’s play equipment, have also been delayed for years without any progress.

The need for surveillance was further highlighted by a recent incident where a person collapsed due to health issues. Ambulance assistance was only provided after morning walkers alerted the concerned department. This incident underscores the importance of having proper security measures to ensure quick responses during emergencies.

Mohammed Abid Ali, a social activist and regular morning walker, emphasized the importance of enhanced security in Public Gardens. He stated, “As a cultural and recreational hub, the garden needs better security to prevent unlawful activities and maintain order. Installing surveillance cameras will help deter crime and ensure public safety.”

Ali also expressed frustration over the lack of action despite submitting multiple representations over the past four years. He added, “Our continuous requests for patrolling and CCTV installation have fallen on deaf ears. The state government must take immediate steps to safeguard visitors and maintain public order.”

The walkers hope that their latest representation will prompt the authorities to prioritize the safety of one of the city’s most popular public spaces.
