Hyderabad: Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy spoke on Friday, stating that the Supreme Court is the best system in a democratic country, and everyone must follow its orders. However, he accused some leaders of misleading the people while holding the Constitution in their hands. Speaking to the media, Reddy criticized the Congress government for introducing the Waqf Act 1995, which he said went against the secular spirit of the country.
Reddy claimed that the Waqf Board has been given more power than even the Supreme Court. He also alleged that some people are still occupying lands in the Chevella Parliament constituency, comparing the situation to the rule of Aurangzeb. He stated that Aurangzeb’s policies seem to still be in effect in the region.
In particular, Reddy highlighted the issue of about 90 acres in Guttala Begumpet being taken over by the Waqf Board. He said this was done based on the claim that 300 years ago, Aurangzeb had verbally given the land to the Waqf. Reddy questioned the legitimacy of such claims and pointed out that even in Muslim countries, such laws are under the government, not religious institutions. He expressed frustration with how the Waqf Board operates in India, saying it’s confusing whether to laugh, cry, or feel sad about it.
Reddy also criticized the Congress party, saying there is no representation of BCs or Dalits on the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust. He accused the party of showing false concern for BCs, SCs, and STs for the sake of vote-bank politics. He mentioned that the Waqf Board Amendment Bill will be introduced in Parliament during the winter session. However, he clarified that this Bill is not against the Muslim community.
