Hyderabad: The Telangana government is planning to turn the three islands in the Mir Alam Tank into a beautiful tourist spot. Inspired by Singapore’s famous ‘Gardens by the Bay,’ the area will be developed as a Bird’s Paradise with artificial waterfalls. This is part of a larger plan to improve the Musi River area.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held a review meeting on Friday and told officials to speed up the project. He asked them to start the design work right away and to prepare for the construction of a new bridge over Mir Alam Tank.
The CM also looked at designs for the bridge and for Gandhi Sarovar, which is to be developed at Bapughat. He asked that tenders for the bridge work be issued by June. He also said that a full project report, including surveys and designs, should be prepared at the same time.
Along with the bridge, the government wants to improve the three islands in the tank to attract tourists. The plan is to create bird sanctuaries and areas with artificial waterfalls, making the islands scenic and peaceful places to visit.
Other parts of the plan include building convention centres that can host weddings, as well as creating adventure parks, theme parks, amphitheatres, and resorts with boating facilities.
The CM stressed the importance of having hotels and resorts for tourists to stay in. He called for a detailed project report that also includes water cleaning measures for the tank and clear plans for all the tourist features. The project will likely be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
During the meeting, consultants showed bridge designs in a PowerPoint presentation. The CM asked that the 2.5-kilometre-long bridge be made not only beautiful but also safe for both visitors and vehicles.
He also ordered a detailed survey by experts to study the water flow and flood risks in the area. All needed clearances should be taken based on these studies.
Finally, the Chief Minister said that the new bridge and island attractions should be connected to the nearby Nehru Zoological Park. He recommended upgrading the zoo in line with the overall plan, while following all existing rules, to make the area even more appealing to visitors.
