Gadwal: CITU District President A. Venkataswamy has asked the state government to officially celebrate Phule Jayanti in honor of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. He made this request during an event organized by various social groups at Krishna Veni Junction on Friday, marking Phule’s 199th birth anniversary.
During his speech, Venkataswamy said that Phule spent his life fighting for equality for oppressed communities. He criticized the district administration for not organizing any official event to remember Phule. He said this was a missed chance to educate people about Phule’s work and ideals.
Venkataswamy also spoke about Phule’s belief in keeping public sector institutions under government control and ensuring fair wages for workers. He accused the BJP-led central government of going against these values. He said that since the BJP came to power, many public sector units have been privatized, which has led to rising unemployment.
He went on to accuse the central government of increasing inequality and ignoring Phule’s vision of social justice. He urged workers to stay united and fight against the divisive politics of both the state and central governments. He encouraged them to continue working towards the goals of equality and justice that Phule stood for.
Venkataswamy also expressed hope that starting next year, Phule Jayanti would be celebrated by the government with full official respect and recognition.
The event saw participation from several prominent figures, including advocate Madhusudan Babu, Dalit Aikya Vedika district convener Mohan, Bahujan Rajya Samiti leader Valmiki Vinod, Hussain Tower Makbul, BRSV district president Kurva Pallayya, CITU district vice president Upper Narasimha, and leaders from various other social and public organizations like Krishna and Sadathulla.
