Hyderabad has introduced changes in how people can reserve special vehicle registration numbers. The Telangana government updated Rule 81 under the Telangana Motor Vehicles Rules to make the process clearer and more digital.
To reserve a number, vehicle owners must use the online portal at www.transport.telangana.gov.in. The fees for these numbers are divided into six categories based on their popularity.
The most sought-after numbers such as 1, 9, and 9999 cost Rs 1,50,000. Next, numbers like 99, 100, 786, 888, and 999 are priced at Rs 1,00,000. Following these, numbers such as 33, 111, 555, 666, 777, and 1000 have a fee of Rs 50,000.
A larger group of numbers, including 1234, 2023, 2525, 3333, 4444, 5555, 6666, 7777, 8888, and 9090, cost Rs 20,000. Numbers like 123, 143, 202, 345, 789, and 987 are available for Rs 10,000. All other numbers are priced at Rs 2,000.
Applications must be made online only, with no in-person submissions allowed. This is expected to cut down on corruption and make the process smoother.
Additionally, high-demand numbers will be auctioned if multiple people want them. Bidders have a two-hour window to participate online. The highest bidder wins, but if they don’t register a vehicle within 30 days, they lose the reservation and the fee. Unsuccessful bidders will lose 10% of their fee.
These changes show Telangana’s efforts to modernize transport services and boost revenue. The public is welcome to give feedback on these amendments within 15 days after they are published in the Gazette.
