Warangal: NGO ‘Jwala’ Organizes Unique Rally on International Anti-Corruption Day
A symbolic rally highlighting the fight against corruption was organized in Warangal on Monday by the NGO ‘Jwala.’ The protest creatively depicted ‘morality’ being transported in an ambulance while ‘corruption’ was shown flexing its muscles. The event was held to mark International Anti-Corruption Day.
The rally was led by Sunkari Prashanth, the founder and president of Jwala. Veteran social worker and Lok Satta State advisor, Prof. Parcha Kodandarama Rao, also participated in the event. Prashanth, who has been raising awareness about corruption for the past 15 years, explained the symbolism of the protest. He stated that ethics and morals are in a critical state, comparable to being in the ICU, while corruption continues to dominate.
Prashanth called on the government to officially observe December 9 as International Anti-Corruption Day. He also urged leaders, including the chief minister, ministers, and legislators, to voluntarily disclose their assets. Additionally, he pressed for the establishment of fast-track courts to handle anti-corruption cases efficiently.
Addressing the challenges faced by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Prashanth pointed out that many cases filed are dismissed due to insufficient evidence. He stressed the need for the government to strengthen the ACB to effectively combat corruption.
Prof. Kodandarama Rao echoed these sentiments and called for further empowerment of the ACB, suggesting it could be modeled after initiatives like HYDRA, which protects lakes and water bodies in Hyderabad.
The rally, which began at the Thousand Pillar Temple and ended at the Ambedkar Statue, saw participation from notable individuals, including NPDCL AD Ashok Kumar, Prakash, Burri Krishnamurthy, Achche Amarnath, Buddhe Suresh, and Sunkari Raju.
