Hyderabad: Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has reached an impressive milestone by completing 300 robotic-assisted surgeries in just one year. This was achieved using the advanced surgical robot, Da Vinci. NIMS is now one of the quickest among government hospitals in India to reach this significant number. The surgeries include complex procedures in the areas of urology, gastrointestinal surgery, and surgical oncology.
Dr. Bheerappa Nagari, the director of NIMS, expressed his excitement about this achievement. He mentioned that robotic surgery is a growing technology making a big impact worldwide and now in India, it is enhancing the results of medical treatments. The main aim is to provide the best possible care to all patients. With new technology becoming available, it is crucial to ensure that all patients can benefit from it.
Dr. Bheerappa also highlighted that the technology helps reduce the time patients need to stay in the hospital after surgery. This allows doctors to treat more patients each day, cutting down the waiting time for surgeries from months to just a few days. Many patients now choose robotic-assisted surgery, thanks to positive feedback from those who have already undergone these procedures.
Dr. Rahul Devraj, a professor and head of the Department of Urology at NIMS, and the coordinator for robotic surgery, emphasized the importance of government support. He believes that this support has been crucial in making this advanced surgical method accessible to everyone.
Dr. Devraj expressed pride in offering such advanced technology at NIMS. He explained that using this technology helps in dealing with complex medical conditions effectively. In terms of safety and long-term results, robotic-assisted surgery is a good alternative to traditional techniques. Patients who have had these surgeries report experiencing less pain and require fewer follow-up visits. They have also given positive feedback, praising the surgeons for the excellent outcomes after challenging surgeries.
