Rangareddy district is taking steps to prevent seasonal illnesses among children due to the ongoing rains. The district administration plans to distribute anti-parasitic medicine to children promptly.
District Collector C Narayana Reddy has instructed officials to ensure that all children and students aged 1 to 19 receive Albendazole tablets. This medicine fights infections from parasitic worms like roundworms and hookworms, which often affect the stomachs of young people. It also treats diseases like hydatid disease and neurocysticercosis, which can cause seizures.
During a meeting for National Deworming Day, the district collector told principals of government and private schools, anganwadis, junior colleges, and welfare hostels to conduct a special drive on August 11. This drive aims to give Albendazole tablets to students. The collector stressed the importance of making this program as successful as last year and running an awareness campaign to inform parents about these infections and treatments.
District Medical Officer Venkateswara Rao assured that Albendazole has no side effects for children. He explained that playing barefoot can lead to worm infections, causing issues like stomach pain and weight loss. Science teachers will be responsible for giving the medicine to the children.
District Additional Collector Chandra Reddy, DRO Sangeetha, DRDA Project Director Srilatha, DPO Suresh Mohan, DEO Sushinder Rao, and other officials attended the meeting.
