Oil Palm Cultivation to Expand to 100,000 Acres in 2024-25

Hyderabad: Telangana has set a goal to expand oil palm cultivation to 100,000 acres in the upcoming financial year.

During the budget presentation for the financial year 2024-25, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka addressed the State Assembly on Thursday. He mentioned that Telangana currently produces 53.06 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of palm oil, cultivated over 12.12 lakh acres.

The State government plans to support oil palm farmers through the “Oil Palm Areas Expansion Under National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP).” The target is to cultivate oil palm in 100,000 acres during 2024-25. So far, registrations have been made for 77,857 acres, and permissions have been granted for 23,131 acres.

Additionally, the government is taking steps to issue permissions in July for plantation and drip systems for all registered areas.
