Hyderabad: Work on expanding the Hyderabad Metro Rail from MG Bus Station to Chandrayangutta is progressing quickly. This stretch of the metro line is 7.5 kilometers long. So far, the government has given out compensation cheques worth ₹212 crore to property owners affected by the project.
Metro officials said that land is being acquired and buildings are being taken down with the support of local residents. Out of the 1,100 properties affected by the expansion, compensation has already been paid out for 205 of them.
According to NVS Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited, engineers are carefully removing tangled electric, telephone, and other cables along the route. These cables were blocking some of the demolition work. The project is being closely monitored by metro engineers, along with revenue and police departments.
Many buildings have already been demolished, and the debris has been cleared to make way for the road expansion. Some of the major structures removed include the Lahoti Building and Akbar Function Hall. Demolition is still ongoing at places like Shabbar Café, Meena Plaza, Pista House, and Swagat Hotel. Reddy said that all safety steps are being taken to protect nearby sensitive buildings.
He also shared that metro construction in the Old City will begin as soon as the Central government gives its approval, and the work is being carried out at a fast pace.
