The final celebration of the Ashada Masam Bonalu festival in Hyderabad is set to take place, especially in the Old City. Temples there are beautifully illuminated for the two-day event on Sunday and Monday.
The festival began at Sri Jagadambika Temple in Golkonda Fort on June 26 and has been celebrated across the city. Events included the Kalyana Mahotsavam of Sri Yellamma at Balkampet, a two-day festival at Sri Ujjaini Mahankali in Secunderabad on July 13 and 14, and festivities at Mahankali temples at Begum Bazar, Goshamahal, and Chandanwadi on July 16. The final pooja is scheduled citywide, with the Old City being a highlight.
The Ummidi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee, representing 25 temples in the Old City, has organized grand celebrations for the last Sunday of Ashada Masam. Though the festival officially falls on Sunday and Monday, crowds began gathering from Thursday, with many VIPs and devotees offering Bonams. The Ghatam Sthapana was completed on July 13 in key temples like Sri Lal Darwaza Simhavahini Mahankali and Sri Akkanna Madanna Mahankali.
On Friday, the Executive Officer of the Vijayawada Sri Durga Malleshwara Swamy Temple, accompanied by scholars and officials, visited the Lal Darwaja Simhavahini Sri Mahankali Temple. They presented silk clothes to the goddess, and Lal Darwaja Temple Committee Chairman B. Maruti Yadav welcomed and honored them.
