Jogulamba Gadwal: The Priyadarshini Jurala Project (PJP) on the Krishna River is experiencing strong water activity today, as recorded at 3:00 PM. Located in Jogulamba Gadwal district, the dam is crucial for irrigation and power during the monsoon.
The water level stands at 317.440 meters (or 1,041.470 feet), just below its full capacity of 318.516 meters. Its gross storage can hold 7.535 TMC, while the live storage is at 3.828 TMC, showing healthy water levels.
The dam receives an inflow of 1,24,000 cusecs due to upstream rains, while 1,15,759 cusecs are released downstream. This balance maintains the dam’s safety and water management.
Currently, 12 gates are open, releasing 86,212 cusecs through the spillway to control excess water and protect the dam’s structure.
The hydroelectric power station effectively uses 27,699 cusecs for energy production, supporting the local electricity supply.
Several irrigation schemes are active: Bhima Lift-I releases 650 cusecs, Koilsagar Lift uses 315 cusecs, and the Left Main Canal (LMC) and Right Main Canal (RMC) release 390 and 290 cusecs, respectively. Other systems, like Nettampadu Lift and Bhima Lift-II, are inactive today.
Evaporation causes a minor loss of 43 cusecs, a normal occurrence during this season.
The PJP Dam is managing the inflows efficiently and safely. Authorities have opened all spillway gates to ensure proper water flow and energy generation. The moderate use of irrigation systems marks the start of the farming season.
Residents and farmers downstream should stay updated through official channels, especially if inflows increase. Current operations indicate a stable water supply for the upcoming kharif season.
