Hyderabad will soon see a major step forward in agricultural education. Starting in the academic year 2025-26, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTAU) is teaming up with Western Sydney University (WSU) in Australia to offer a new four-year B.Sc. Agriculture program.
Students will complete the first three years of study at PJTAU, followed by their final year at WSU. This gives them solid local education along with valuable international exposure. Those who want to continue their studies can stay an extra year at WSU to earn an M.Sc. degree. This extended option leads to a B.Sc. from PJTAU and an M.Sc. from WSU.
For students aiming even higher, PhD opportunities are available at WSU. These come with scholarships that help cover tuition and other costs.
PJTAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Aldas Janaiah shared that the official agreement between the two universities is almost ready. He confirmed that WSU’s agricultural courses are fully recognized by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). In fact, ICAR signed an agreement with WSU last year to support this global partnership.
A formal admissions notification for these new courses will be released shortly.
In other news, PJTAU is expanding. More seats will be available under both regular and special quotas, and fees are being reduced. New colleges are also in the pipeline. The university will release detailed admission information, including for the NRI quota, within the week.
Professor Janaiah also issued a warning to students and parents. Many private colleges in Telangana are advertising B.Sc. Agriculture courses without ICAR approval. He stressed that only PJTAU has official permission from ICAR to offer this course in the state.
This new collaboration opens exciting doors for agriculture students in Telangana, combining local expertise with global learning.
