Hyderabad: The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTAU) is set to celebrate its 55th Convocation this Saturday. This event marks a key moment for many agricultural graduates completing their studies.
At a media briefing, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aldas Janaiah announced that the ceremony will be led by Chancellor and Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Verma. Dr. Mangilal Jat, the Director General of ICAR and Secretary of DARE, will serve as the Chief Guest and deliver the main address.
This year, the university will award 830 degrees for the 2021–22 academic year. The degrees include 690 undergraduate, 154 postgraduate, and several Ph.D. degrees. Additionally, 30 Gold Medals will honor outstanding academic achievements.
Prof. Janaiah shared that PJTAU’s inaugural convocation was held in 1966, with attendance by then Agriculture Minister C. Subramaniam. Over the years, the university has hosted esteemed guests like former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao, and Manmohan Singh, along with leading scientists.
Upon taking office, Prof. Janaiah found four convocations were overdue. With this event, the first of these pending convocations is completed. Plans are underway to hold the 56th and 57th convocations together in November, with an invitation extended to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. A large Kisan Mela is also proposed. The last pending convocation is planned for March–April 2026.
