Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated major railway infrastructure projects valued at ₹1,535 crores to the nation on May 10 from Hyderabad. The projects are aimed at strengthening rail connectivity in Telangana and improving freight and passenger movement across the region. The development marks a significant boost to the state’s transportation infrastructure and is expected to enhance logistics efficiency across the North-South corridor.
The Kazipet-Vijayawada corridor, a crucial segment of the Grand Trunk route connecting North and South India, has been rapidly upgraded with multi-tracking and electrification at a cost of ₹1,243 crores. This strategic railway corridor plays a vital role in facilitating seamless movement of goods and passengers between different parts of the country. The upgradation work includes enhanced track capacity and modern electrification systems to support higher train frequencies and faster transit times.
In addition to the corridor upgrade, the 21-kilometer Kazipet Rail Under Rail Bypass has been completed at a cost of ₹292 crores. This bypass will streamline train movement across three major directions including Secunderabad, Balharshah, and Vijayawada. The infrastructure improvement is designed to reduce congestion at the Kazipet junction and enable smoother operations for both freight and passenger trains passing through the region.
The railway projects are aligned with the government’s vision of building modern, high-capacity rail infrastructure across the country. The improvements are expected to accelerate regional development by enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time for passengers. The upgraded infrastructure will also support increased freight movement, benefiting industries and businesses that rely on efficient transportation networks for supply chain operations.
