Hyderabad: Four people involved in online cricket betting were caught by the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, along with the Mahankali police. The police seized ₹92,120 in cash and four mobile phones during the arrest.
The arrested individuals were Godela Sandeep Kumar and S Abhishek Kumar, who worked as sub-bookies, Vinay Singh, a collection agent, and P Yashwanth Gupta, a punter. Another person named Adem, who is believed to be the main bookie from New Delhi, is currently on the run.
Police said the suspects lived in different parts of the city, including Secunderabad, Goshamahal, and Mangalhat. They were organizing online cricket betting using websites such as IPLKhelo.com, Mahakal999.com, Mahakal365.com, and Mahakalpunt.com. They provided login IDs and passwords to people who wanted to place bets.
Based on a tip-off, the police caught them near the Mahankali temple. The cash and mobile phones were recovered at the scene.
The arrested men and the seized items have been handed over to the Mahankali police for further investigation.
