Hyderabad: On Tuesday, Dr. Jitender retired as the Director General of Police in Telangana, giving a heartfelt speech at the Police Academy in Hyderabad. He expressed deep gratitude to his family, particularly honoring the influence of his late parents.
After over 33 years of service, including 15 months as DGP, Dr. Jitender reflected emotionally on his career. He credited his parents for teaching him values and integrity, which guided his life in law enforcement.
During his career, Dr. Jitender played a key role in modernizing the police force in Telangana. He tackled cybercrime, narcotics, and organized betting, lifting Telangana Police to the top of the India Justice Report rankings. His efforts included installing about 10 lakh CCTV cameras for better security, ensuring quick resolutions to crimes, often within 48 to 72 hours, using technology and skilled teams.
A 1992 Indian Police Service officer, Dr. Jitender served in several capacities. He was SP of Mahbubnagar and Guntur, DIG in Vizag and Warangal, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Hyderabad. Here, he introduced automated signals and India’s first cashless challan system. He also managed important departments like Police and Fire Services as Principal Secretary. His contributions earned him awards such as the President’s Police Medal and the Internal Security Medal of India.
At his farewell, Dr. Jitender thanked the government, colleagues, and family for their support. He acknowledged the personal sacrifices involved in policing and stressed that technology should not replace human values in law enforcement.
Dr. Jitender leaves a legacy of innovation and integrity in Telangana Police. Shivadhar Reddy will succeed him, with hopes of continuing the spirit of progress and compassion. As he left the stage, Dr. Jitender was remembered for his dedication to duty and the values he championed both at home and in his career.
