A Nampally court in Hyderabad has allowed the police to keep Dr. Athaluri Namrata in custody for five days. She is accused of running an illegal surrogacy and sperm business.

Dr. Namrata managed the Universal Shrushti Fertility Centre in Secunderabad with her son, Pachipala Jayanth Krishna. Both are the main suspects in this illegal operation.

On July 26, the police in Gopalapuram raided the clinic. A couple from Rajasthan had complained that a baby they received from the clinic was not biologically theirs.
