Hyderabad is preparing for a big change in its police leadership. The state government is planning a major reshuffle of IPS officers following recent Naxal attacks and rising concerns about terrorism after India’s military action against Pakistan.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who also oversees the Home Ministry, has reviewed a detailed report on the performance of police officers across the state — from Superintendents of Police (SP) to the Director General of Police (DGP).
The trigger for this move was a deadly encounter in Khammam district, where police officers were killed during a Naxal operation. Adding to the concern was the recent arrest of a suspected terrorist, Sameer, in Hyderabad, which raised alarms about growing terror threats.
The State Intelligence Department, in coordination with national agencies, is now keeping a close watch on extremist and terrorist activities. With the situation becoming more sensitive, the government aims to strengthen surveillance and maintain tight security across Telangana.
To handle the situation better, experienced IPS officers will be assigned more critical roles. These officers, with a strong background in dealing with Naxal and terror operations, will work closely with district SPs. They will also provide regular updates to the government on law and order in their areas.
Sources say several SPs and IG-rank officers will soon be moved, especially in districts considered more vulnerable. Areas like old Khammam, Warangal, Adilabad, Karimnagar, and Nalgonda are under special watch, as extremist groups could become active there again.
A fresh review is also underway in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda police commissionerates. Top officials are assessing the situation in the city after Sameer’s arrest. Once their report is complete, more transfers are expected.
The Chief Minister is personally monitoring the performance of top police officials. His priority is to ensure peace and stability across the state. Decisions on transfers and new appointments will be made soon to tighten control and improve coordination in dealing with any threats.
