Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced on Tuesday that the government is preparing for Moharram, an important Islamic month starting in the first week of July. During a meeting at the Telangana State Secretariat, Prabhakar, along with government advisor Mohammed Shabbir Ali, gathered with officials from different departments and Shia religious leaders.
Prabhakar stressed the importance of teamwork among all departments. He directed the police to ensure security at Ashoorkhanas, where Moharram events occur. The minister also ordered quick completion of drainage and road repairs around these sites and the installation of high mast lights.
The Forest department was tasked with arranging an elephant for the Moharram procession. The electricity department needs to set up special lighting, while the water board must provide drinking water.
The GHMC is responsible for managing sanitation. They should set up mobile toilets and other needed facilities. R&B officials were told to place barricades, and high-ranking police officers were instructed to prevent traffic issues during the procession. Strong security measures are required near Bibi-ka-Alam, the main procession’s starting point.
Government advisor Mohammad Shabbir Ali highlighted the need for easy access to essential services for those visiting Ashoorkhanas. He also suggested having medical camps and ambulances ready.
