Hyderabad Incident: Arrests Made in CMR Engineering College Hostel Scandal

A major protest erupted at CMR Engineering College in Hyderabad after female students alleged that bathroom footage from their hostel was secretly recorded by staff members. Following the outcry, the Cyberabad police arrested the hostel warden and five other workers connected to the women’s hostel.

The protest began on Wednesday night and continued into Thursday, as students demanded justice and action against the breach of their privacy. In response to the complaints, the Medchal police registered a case and detained five hostel mess workers for questioning.

Authorities seized 11 mobile phones belonging to the workers and began analyzing their contents. Medchal ACP B. Srinivas Reddy stated, “So far, we have not found any evidence of videos being recorded or any obscene content. We are also checking to see if any videos were deleted from the devices.”

The college management has also come under scrutiny. Police have booked the management for negligence, as the mess workers were reportedly given rooms next to the bathrooms, providing them access to the ventilators of the women’s washrooms. A separate case was filed against individuals accused of peeping into the washrooms after students raised concerns.

One student claimed to have seen the shadow of a person near the bathroom and informed the warden, but no immediate action was taken. Investigators have since called in fingerprint experts to collect samples from imprints found on the glass of the bathroom ventilator.

In a shocking revelation, a student allegedly discovered a mobile phone in one of the hostel washrooms. Upon inspection, the device reportedly contained over 300 videos of women recorded in the washroom over the past three months. This discovery has intensified the outrage among students and the public.

The Telangana State Commission for Women (SCW) has stepped in, with its chairperson, Sharada A. Nerella, writing to the Cyberabad Commissioner of Police. She has urged a fair and swift investigation into the matter and demanded a detailed action-taken report from the police at the earliest.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the incident and ensure accountability.
