Rains are affecting the Telugu states as a strong cyclonic storm forms in the northwest Bay of Bengal. This storm, which hit land between Bangladesh and West Bengal, is expected to weaken within 12 hours, according to the Meteorological Department. Many areas in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema are experiencing thundershowers and lightning. Fishermen have been warned to avoid fishing due to dangerous sea conditions.
The Disaster Management Agency predicts rain in 20 districts across Andhra Pradesh because of the storm and the southwest monsoon. Light to moderate rain is likely in the Nandyal, YSR Kadapa, and Tirupati districts of Rayalaseema, while other districts may see light showers.
In Telangana, the Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert until June 2, forecasting rain over the next four days. The southwest monsoon has spread across the area, causing heavy rain in parts of Kothagudem on Thursday. Districts like Mahabubabad, Siricilla, Adilabad, Jagtial, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Khammam, Nirmal, and Nizamabad are also experiencing significant rainfall. Hyderabad saw flooding on main roads after evening rain.
Typically, the last week of May, known as the Rohini Karthi period, is sunny. However, this year, the early arrival of the southwest monsoon has brought heavy rain to the Telugu states during this period.
