Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, sparking talks that the state Cabinet might soon be expanded. The CM visited the Governor at Raj Bhavan on the occasion of the Ugadi festival. During the meeting, they are believed to have discussed plans to expand the Cabinet in the first week of April. This expansion was expected to happen before Ugadi but got delayed.
Revanth Reddy was joined by Minister Konda Surekha, MP Anil Kumar Yadav, CM’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, and others during the visit. Reports suggest that the Congress high command may approve the Cabinet expansion next week. Out of six vacant Cabinet positions, at least four are expected to be filled soon.
In the meantime, many hopeful candidates are actively lobbying for a Cabinet position. Several groups representing Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs) have written to the AICC (All India Congress Committee), asking for fair representation of their communities.
Pressure is mounting within the party, especially after the state government passed important bills in the recent budget session. These bills included 42% reservation for BCs and categorization of SCs. Communities such as the Madigas, Lambadas, and some BC groups are pushing hard for seats in the Cabinet.
If the Congress party cannot include all deserving lawmakers in the Cabinet, sources say they may offer other important roles, such as Deputy Speaker or Chief Whip, to keep party members satisfied.
