Gadwal: Heavy rain caused serious flooding at the High School in Chinna Tandrapadu village of Aija Mandal on Wednesday. Students and teachers had to walk through water that reached their knees.
Newly built CC roads, higher than the school grounds, worsened the situation by directing rainwater into the school. Without a proper drainage system, the water quickly pooled, making it unsafe for everyone there.
Sudhakar Goud, a local TDP leader and social activist, took initiative. With help from Headmaster Hanumantu, teachers, Deputy Sarpanch Mahesh Naidu, and local youth, he hired a JCB at his expense. They dug pathways to connect the water to outside drains, and within hours, the school was dry again.
Villagers have long faced drainage issues, and this incident underscores the urgent need for government help. They urged officials to improve drainage systems so students can study without constant disruptions.
Thanks to the quick response of school staff and local volunteers, classes resumed. However, this event has renewed demands for better infrastructure in rural schools.
