The Godavari River has overflowed again, causing authorities to issue a second danger alert at the Dowleswaram barrage. After two days of lower water levels, the river is now rising, reaching a height of 13.75 feet. About 13 lakh cusecs of extra water are being released from the barrage into the sea.

Heavy rainfall over the past week has made the Godavari swell, especially at Bhadrachalam, where the water is moving fast. Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation, as more floodwaters from upstream are expected to join, increasing the river’s flow.

By 3 PM on Friday, the water level at Bhadrachalam had climbed to 52.8 feet. If it goes above 53 feet, a final third danger alert will be issued. The water level had started to go down until Friday night but rose again at dawn because of continued rainfall across the state. A second emergency alert was issued at 9 PM on Friday when levels went past 48 feet.

Officials are urging residents, especially those in low-lying villages, to be very careful. People are advised to avoid floodwaters, stay away from canals and culverts, and avoid fallen power lines and poles. Authorities are asking for public cooperation to manage this challenging situation.
