Hyderabad/New Delhi: Eight Members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha wanted to know about the effects of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. They asked if the government had evaluated NEP 2020 and its future assessments.

Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar answered, stating that a detailed evaluation isn’t finished yet, but changes are visible. The “PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024” survey checked student skills from Grades 3, 6, and 9. It involved over 21 lakh students and 2.7 lakh teachers from 74,000 schools, with 63% from rural areas. According to UDISE+ data, school education in India has improved between 2014–2023. Dropout rates are down, average schooling years have increased, and youth literacy reached 97%. More female teachers are joining, promoting gender balance.

In higher education, the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2022–23 showed a 30% rise in enrolment since 2014–15, especially among SC and ST students. India is now third globally for PhDs in Science and Engineering.
